ABOUT

Billions of people worldwide rely on healthy and sustainable oceans to supply them with food and income. This issue is especially true for developing and less developed countries (LDCs). Sadly, these LDCs and developing countries are also usually the most impacted by Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF). Whether from illegal fishing incursions into their EEZ, human trafficking onto fishing vessels, or the destruction of wildlife, in some way, unlawful actors in our oceans have negatively impacted every coastal state. Sadly, some of the largest IUUF fishing fleets originate in East Asia. According to the Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing Index (2021), 4 out of 10 of the worst-performing fishing fleets are within East Asia.

That is why in 2022, Errhalt Consulting saw the opportunity to base itself out of Tokyo, Japan, to promote more sustainable fisheries throughout East Asia. By supporting Asian fisheries in improving their compliance with international standards, Errhalt Consulting hopes to create a more sustainable ocean. Whether through education, advocacy, intelligence, or communication, Errhalt Consulting will work hard to ensure that future generations can enjoy fresh sashimi.
